New Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley could be the perfect man for Gareth Bale's potential blueprint for the Devon club.

Plymouth Argyle have been linked with a takeover fronted by five-time Champions League winner and Welsh football legend, Gareth Bale.

After a hectic few weeks at Home Park, which saw the departure of Miron Muslic to 2. Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04, the appointment of Tom Cleverley as his replacement, four new players in the door, and the departure of fan favourite Ryan Hardie to Wrexham, things have somehow taken an even crazier turn.

From out of absolutely nowhere, reports earlier in the week emerged that a US-based consortium which is being fronted by Bale were in talks with current Argyle chairman, Simon Hallett, over a deal which would see them take ownership of the Devon-based side.

Hallett has openly expressed his desire to pass the baton of ownership in recent years, which could help Plymouth become a sustainable Championship club. However, the deal being discussed between the two parties would reportedly see the US consortium take full control in PL2.

If Bale arrives, he will no doubt have a clear structure in place for the long-term future of the club. With that in mind, the recent appointment of young boss Cleverley could be the perfect appointment for the long-term blueprint that the Welshman could look to follow, should he complete the takeover.

What Gareth Bale’s Plymouth Argyle blueprint could look like

There aren’t very many concrete details about the takeover currently, as it seems a deal is still a fair way from being completed. All we know so far is that talks are commencing between the two parties, with Bale acting as the spearhead, and reportedly being backed by the Storch family, whose presence on the internet is sparse.

Whilst talks continue behind the scenes, plenty of excitement and intrigue has come via social media about what the former Galactico could bring to Devon. Bale was a man who lived and breathed success in his playing career, ending it as the most decorated British footballer in history.

With that in mind, the 35-year-old will undoubtedly want to replicate some of that success from his playing days, albeit at a lower level. In the short to medium term though, it’s fairly obvious what sort of blueprint Bale would be looking to follow at Home Park.

Well, before any sort of long-term success is targeted, Plymouth must push to secure a return to the Championship at the earliest possible opportunity. Hardie’s departure has dealt promotion hopes a slight dent, and the Greens will have to be very shrewd with their business to somehow replace the departed striker.

Bale will likely be looking to oversee progression and improvement every season, whilst having a strong group of players that grow with the club itself. With the funds of the new ownership group, the already solid infrastructure of the club can continue to be built upon in the coming years to reach the next level.

Of course, a young head coach that helps develop the squad over the coming years and also grows alongside the club will be hugely important in this likely blueprint. With Cleverley now at the helm, Bale’s managerial prodigy may be right under his nose if and when he arrives in the South West of England.

Despite the gutting news of Hardie’s recent departure to North Wales, it’s currently a very exciting time to be a member of the Green Army. With plenty reportedly going on behind the scenes, the summer is only just getting started for Plymouth.

Having explained the likely blueprint for success that Bale could follow if he takes the reins at Home Park, it seems like the choice of head coach by the current Argyle hierarchy could be a perfect fit for the plans of the potential new ownership plans.

A solid manager at Championship level, who is still just 35 years of age, Cleverley could well be the man to lead this hugely exciting new era on the south coast. The former Watford boss has a three-year deal at the club, and has extremely high potential as a head coach.

If you look at Birmingham City as an example, Chris Davies was a young coach hired to oversee operations on the pitch in the present, and grow with the squad and club in the long-term. So far, that particular appointment has been just what the owners would’ve wanted when he arrived at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park.

With that in mind, Plymouth will be hoping to emulate what Birmingham have done by bouncing back from League One and returning to the second tier in a much better place than they left it under their new ownership.

The Pilgrims already have a strong nucleus of players at the club, and with an up-and-coming young head coach in Cleverley now at the helm, Bale may already have the perfect man in place to follow his blueprint at Home Park.
