Tony Mowbray has returned to management with Blackburn Rovers, rejoining the Championship club for a second spell. The 62-year-old takes his first job since undergoing surgery late last year to remove cancerous cells from his groin.

The former West Brom boss was dismissed in April 2025, three months into his second stint at The Hawthorns. He previously spent five years at Ewood Park from 2017 to 2022.

Mowbray first stepped away from the game in January 2024 while in charge at Blues, to have an operation and chemotherapy after a scan revealed bowel cancer deposits. Following recovery, he replaced Carlos Corberan at Albion in January last year.

His second spell brought five wins in 18 matches, and he left after Albion fell out of play-off contention. He remains a favourite at The Hawthorns after leading promotion in 2009 during his first tenure.

He said: "I still feel I've got the energy and the drive to do it and feel I'm at that point now, ready to go back to work. Let's wait and see if the opportunity comes." The comments were made to the East Anglian Daily Times last month.

Blackburn finished 20th last season, one place above Albion, and had been seeking a permanent head coach after interim Michael O’Neill chose not to take the job full-time.
