Too expensive: Bayern pulls out of the race for the striker

FC Bayern is in the midst of an exciting summer transfer window. Several players have recently been linked to the record champions. It appears the club is no longer in the running for one of these players.

That player is Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian is currently still under contract with Juventus, but his contract expires this summer. Bayern had had their eye on him several times in recent years, and he came back into focus a few months ago as the club sought a backup for Harry Kane.

The rumors were fueled by the fact that, although Juventus tried hard, they still failed to make any significant progress toward extending Vlahovic’s contract.

Vlahovic is no longer an option for Bayern

According to a report in *Gazzetta dello Sport*, while Vlahovic’s departure isn’t a done deal yet, it’s likely. The problem for the Serbian, however, is that virtually none of the many rumored suitors have made a serious offer.

This is primarily because Vlahovic wants to earn well over ten million euros—even with a pay cut—and, of course, he’s also looking for a hefty signing bonus.

That’s one of the reasons why Bayern Munich, among others, hasn’t made a concrete offer to the player. The record champions are also signing Ismael Saibari, who can play as a deep-lying striker and will allow Serge Gnabry to take on the role of backup striker more often.

FC Barcelona has also been linked with the Serbian, but has not yet made an offer and does not plan to do so. That leaves Besiktas as an option.

The club is now led by Italian head coach Vincenzo Italiano, under whom Vlahovic had his most successful season in front of goal during his time at Fiorentina. According to Saturday’s report in *Gazzetta dello Sport*, the Turkish club is currently Vlahovic’s only real alternative to Juventus.
