Mehdi Taremi started for Inter Milan in yesterday’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg against AC Milan.

It was a big opportunity for the Iranian international.

Taremi had scored for Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Milan in January. That was truthfully one of his best performances in a Nerazzurri shirt despite the unfortunate result for the team.

Therefore, perhaps Taremi will have seen yesterday as an opportunity to make a similar statement.

But the reality was that Mehdi Taremi came nowhere close to taking advantage of his opportunity yesterday.

The Iranian lacked physicality in his battles with the Milan defenders.

There was one excellent headed knock-down for Lautaro Martinez.

But apart from that, Taremi was unable to hold up the ball. He would repeatedly lose it when teammates tried to find him.

And the former Porto striker offered next to nothing in terms of a threat in front of goal.
