Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign former Liverpool defender and club legend Andrew Robertson on a free transfer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Scotland international only a few days after avoiding relegation.
Tottenham escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton in their final fixture.
Spurs only needed a draw to avoid relegation from the top flight for the first time in nearly five decades, but didn’t leave anything to chance with Joao Palhinha scoring the winner.
After that relegation scare, Tottenham have quickly shifted their attention to the summer transfer market as the club prepares for a massive overhaul.
Spurs are now looking to make Robertson their first summer addition, and the Scotland international is ready to make the switch in the coming days.
Having spent nearly a decade at Anfield, Robertson decided to call time on a trophy-laden spell with Liverpool, where he won every major trophy available.
Now looking to begin a new chapter, Robertson has decided to continue in the Premier League. He’s now one step away from joining Tottenham on a free transfer.
Tottenham tried to sign Robertson in January, but Liverpool weren’t interested in making a deal.
Barring any late hijacks, the Scottish left back is now poised to join Spurs and could be the club’s first signing of the summer.
Juventus have already tried to hijack Tottenham’s deal with Robertson, but he wanted to continue his next chapter in the Premier League.
Tottenham are also on the cusp of finalising a deal for former Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who is also available on a free transfer.
The North Londoners fended off competition from Liverpool to snap up the Argentine centre-back.
Barcelona were also interested in Senesi, but he has already agreed a four-year deal with Tottenham.
