It was a massive win for Spurs

With six losses from their previous seven league games before today, the importance of getting the win cannot be overstated for Tottenham. Each loss was bringing Postecoglou and Daniel Levy under immense pressure, and it will be a welcome relief for the pair to just have some respite.

If the Lilywhites can continue to pick up some league wins to go along with their excellent cup form, the mood could change very quickly in north London.

Postecoglou is showing increasing faith in Mikey Moore

The 17 year-old has been mesmerising this season and fans have been clamouring for Postecoglou to show more faith in the winger. Today was only his second Premier League start, in a very important game for Spurs.

Postecoglou has been slowly phasing him into the squad, and Moore has seen a lot of game time in the Europa League and FA Cup. With a goal and two assists in his four games previous to today, the youngster is adding the final touches to his game and has been rewarded by his manager.

Richarlison is a welcome addition for Spurs

The Brazilian has had a torrid time with injuries this season. He has missed 131 days and 27 games due to groin and hamstring issues.

When fit, the number nine is one of Spurs’ best forward players. He scored 12 goals last season and his side have missed his clinicality this term, especially in the absence of Dominic Solanke.

Today he was sharp and caused the Bees all sorts of problems. He also managed 79 minutes on the pitch which is a huge positive.

Brentford attempted a lot of crosses to no avail

Whether it was a specific tactic to attack Spurs’ fragility in defending set pieces, or simply a consequence of the game-state, Brentford attempted a lot of crosses with little success.

Thomas Frank’s men struggled for creativity in the game and had no real chances of note until Yoane Wissa missed from close range in the 53rd minute. Given their excellent home form this campaign, it was a disappointing showing from the Bees.

Son Heung-min was excellent

The South Korean star has been in stellar form of late, and today put in a true captain’s performance. Spurs weren’t home and dry today until he assisted Pape Sarr for their second goal in the 87th minute.

Son knew when to slow the game down, and generally made life difficult for Kristoffer Ajer. Postecoglou must be pleased knowing despite Spurs’ injury difficulties and league form, he can rely on his captain.
