Spurs missing almost an entire starting line-up with little let-up in sight

Tottenham have suffered a fresh injury blow with Archie Gray set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old was in contention to start for Spurs in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Gray was an option in his preferred midfield role, but his versatility could also have been crucial in slotting into the defence and allowing the likes of Micky van de Ven or Pedro Porro a rest.

However, it is understood that Gray has picked up an injury in training and will not be involved at St James' Park.

There is no confirmation of the severity of the issue, but reports suggest Gray is expected to be out for around a month with a calf issue.

Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie also ruled out

They are particularly short in defence, with Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie still out despite returning to individual training.

Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai are also unavailable, leaving Frank with little choice but to keep relying on the same back four.

Yves Bissouma recently underwent ankle surgery, while Dejan Kulusevski is not expected to return from a knee injury until later this year.

An ACL injury means James Maddison is unlikely to play any significant role this season and there is still uncertainty over when Dominic Solanke will be back from ankle surgery.

Injury problems piled up at this time of year last season and derailed the campaign, which Frank will be desperate to avoid a repeat of.

Spurs are in the middle of a hectic run of fixtures, with home matches against Chelsea, Copenhagen and Manchester United still to come before the next international break.
