Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pondering a summer transfer move for Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club will look to bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s attack, and luring the Netherlands international away from the Anfield club is a possibility.
However, Liverpool want at least £65 million for Gakpo, who could leave if Yan Diomande is signed.
Spurs are reluctant to pay up to that for the 27-year-old Reds star and it remains to be seen whether concrete talks will take place between both clubs anytime soon.
Tottenham’s current club-record fee is the £65m they paid Bournemouth to sign Dominic Solanke in August 2024.
They are willing to break it for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali but it appears they have reservations over doing so for Gakpo.
The Liverpool winger has been impressing at the World Cup with the Netherlands, with two goals and one assist to his name in two games.
They all came in the 5-1 demolition of Sweden on Saturday and Gakpo could attract more suitors if he keeps putting up similar performances going forward in the competition.
Spurs could do with his quality but their non-involvement in European football next season could deter him from making a move.
Gakpo will not be short of suitors in the Champions League, and Tottenham will have to be convincing enough to lure him to North London.
He bagged seven league goals and five assists in 36 league games for Liverpool last term but weighed in with just two goals and one assist in 11 Champions League games.
His return of 50 goals and 23 assists in 180 games for Liverpool is decent, and Tottenham need such quality and experience in their attack to challenge for a top-five finish.
