Tottenham, one of Leeds United’s relegation rivals, have turned to Roberto De Zerbi with seven matches left, yet their injury problems remain. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds travel to North London in early May for each side’s third-to-last fixture.

Spurs confirmed the Italian’s arrival on Tuesday evening after parting with Igor Tudor following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break. The Croatian was in charge for 44 days and left them one point from the drop zone.

De Zerbi is believed to have signed a five-year contract with no relegation clause. He highlighted the club’s stature, the leadership’s ambition and a short-term focus on climbing the Premier League table, and said he is eager to get to work on the training pitch.

His first match is at Sunderland, but there could already be a fresh setback. Pape Sarr missed Senegal’s 3-1 win over Gambia on Tuesday, reportedly due to a shoulder problem, and he has over a week to recover before the trip to the Stadium of Light. Any absence from training would complicate early adaptation to De Zerbi’s methods.

Sarr has made 22 Premier League appearances this season, scoring two and assisting three. Several team-mates are already sidelined, including Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma.
