Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec has confirmed negotiations with Sunderland over left back Dayann Methalie, but said no deal is in place. The clubs remain apart on valuation, with the Ligue 1 side eager to secure more than the roughly €30 million Ipswich Town paid for Emersonn earlier this summer.

"Dayann is one of the players who are very much in demand this summer, as well as others," he said, speaking to RMC.

"There are discussions with Sunderland and interest from others club. Today, we are discussing with Sunderland but there is no agreement between the two clubs."

"We've been discussing with Sunderland for three or four weeks so Dayann's starting amount has been fixed for three weeks and a month," he added.

"After that, the market makes it so that when you get to a certain amount, not to sell the player would be a management mistake."

The 20-year-old is a key target as Sunderland look to replace Dennis Cirkin. It is understood Methalie is keen on a move to Wearside, with the framework of a five-year deal in place.

Head coach Régis Le Bris declined to comment from Sunderland’s pre-season camp in the US on Wednesday, and said the club intend to work under the radar amid strong competition.
