Four-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, Mikael Silvestre, says he is encouraged by what he is seeing from Ruben Amorim’s current side.
The Frenchman spent nine years at United, and also won the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
United’s enthralling 4-4 draw at home to Bournemouth has them sitting sixth in the Premier League table after 16 games played.
And while Silvestre urged caution around the expectations for his former club, he says there are signs of progression and backed Amorim to keep improving the team.
“He’s been there for just past a year now and he’s been backed by the owners,” Silvestre said.
“I think patience was always a key element in his appointment. Transfer by transfer, it will bring the right players for him to play his football, what he wants to do on the pitch.
“I think they are still far from competing for the major trophies, but there is progress and it’s bringing confidence to everybody at United.
“Like the manager was saying, you need to gain time and the only way to do it is to get results.
“You need to get points and you do that if you get the results. Now, given that, the players are with him and I think there is a real purpose with everyone. It’s looking good.”
