Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes after missing out on another major target as Morgan Rogers completed his record move to Chelsea.

The Premier League champions want to strengthen their midfield and are poised to test Newcastle’s resolve, with the Magpies holding out for a fee similar to Sandro Tonali’s potential £100m move to Tottenham Hostpur.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are reportedly still interested in adding another midfielder after signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans and are said to be in talks with Roma for France international Manu Kone.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has set out his targets for the transfer window and has confirmed the Reds want to sign another winger, with Spain’s World Cup winner Ferran Torres now appearing on their radar.

How can Chelsea afford Rogers without European football?

The simple maths of Chelsea's transfer dealings show that they have already brought in a hefty amount from sales with Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid (£52m), Andrey Santos to Manchester United (£50m), Tyrique George to Everton (£24m) and Enzo Maresca's compensation to join Man City worth £17m.

More could be yet to come with Trevoh Chalobah linked with a move away, while Enzo Fernandez's future is unclear, while Alejandro Garnacho could join Villa in a separate deal, with Uefa’s rules clear on deterring player exchanges at inflated fees, with any deals within 45 days of each other classified as such.

But beyond swap deals, Chelsea can simply be creative when it comes to Financial Fair Play, applying all of the money generated from sales immediately to the accounts, while spreading the Rogers fee out across five years, with just £23.4m due this year.

The pay-off comes down the line if Chelsea ever struggle to generate immediate revenue from sales, though the world class Cobham academy is an asset that should provide comfort in this regard.

Marcus Rashford looks set to return to Manchester United after his £40m exit clause expired. The winger has been linked to several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but The I Paper reports that the 28-year-old is now expected to stay at Old Trafford and given the chance to resurrect his career.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, rather successfully, but the Catalan giants chose not to pick up the €30m (£26m) option to make the deal permanent and instead signed another Englishman – Anthony Gordon – to play on the left wing for them. United are reportedly hesitant to let Rashford leave permanently to another Premier League club, in case he flourishes with them.

Liverpool join Ferran Torres race?

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola confirmed last night that the club “needs to sign a winger” this summer, and the Reds have since been linked with Spain’s World Cup winner Ferran Torres.

That’s according to journalist Ekrem Konur, who claims that his club Barcelona need to raise funds to sign Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez this summer.

Torres has Premier League experience and won a Premier League title with Manchester City in 2021, scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances across two years at the club.

He has scored 65 goals for Barcelona across his five years back in Spain - and scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina.
