Trent Alexander-Arnold has refused to commit to a future at Liverpool beyond this season, insisting his decision on his next contract will be dictated by his pursuit of trophies.

The right-back has entered the final year of his contract and Real Madrid have emerged as suitors for another blockbuster free transfer next summer if Alexander-Arnold refuses to extend at Anfield.

After weeks of avoiding discussing the subject publicly, Alexander-Arnold opened up on his thought process following Liverpool's 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

"The most important thing is trophies if I'm honest," he explained. "I want to win trophies.

"I'm a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That's probably the main factor of anything. If you have a personality that's elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that's what drives them."

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Alexander-Arnold refused to add any public pressure on Liverpool to meet his demands.

"Look, I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public," he said. "This one won't be either.

"I want to be a Liverpool player this season is what I will say."
