Tunisia: what its AFCON history tells us

Tunisia: the long journey of the Eagles at the AFCON
On the eve of AFCON 2025, Tunisia's journey in the continental competition stands as a testament to rare consistency, marked by a record-breaking longevity and a regularity often praised, yet also by a persistent frustration when it comes to sealing the deal. With 22 appearances, including 17 consecutive tournaments between 1994 and 2025, the Carthage Eagles are among the most consistent regulars on the African stage. They have also reached the final on two other occasions, in 1965 and 1996.
Breaking it down, Tunisia's record looks like this:– 1962: third place– 1963: group stage– 1965: finalist– 1978: group stage– 1994: group stage– 1996: finalist– 1998: quarter-finals– 2000: quarter-finals– 2002: group stage– 2004: winners– 2006: group stage– 2008: quarter-finals– 2010: group stage– 2012: quarter-finals– 2013: group stage– 2015: quarter-finals– 2017: quarter-finals– 2019: fourth place– 2021: quarter-finals– 2023: group stage
Crowned champions just once, at home in 2004, Tunisia heads into 2025 with the ambition of turning its historic consistency into true continental glory.
