Up next for Manchester City is a Champions League league phase fixture against AS Monaco. Pep Guardiola’s side take on the Ligue One side at the Stade Louis-II on Wednesday evening. The City squad has trained today ahead of Wednesday’s match. There is good news on the injury front for Manchester City as two key players have been spotted training today. But three other important players have failed to train with their teammates.
Manchester City hosted an open training session on mancity.com earlier today. Of great interest was which of Manchester City’s injured players returned to training today. Rodri and Rayan Cherki were both seen training with Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of Wednesday evening’s Champions League clash with AS Monaco. Rodri missed Manchester City’s most recent win over Burnley due to knee soreness. Rayan Cherki has missed City’s past six matches due to injury. It appears that both players could be available for City’s Champions League league phase fixture against AS Monaco tomorrow.
Omar Marmoush, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Abdukodir Khusanov failed to train with their teammates today. It would appear that all three players are ruled out of tomorrow night’s match. That isn’t a surprise, as all indications have been that each player won’t be available to play for Manchester City until after the upcoming international break.
The hope from a Manchester City point of view is that Rayan Cherki and Rodri are available for selection for tomorrow night’s match. Each player is an important player in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Of the two, Rodri is more likely to play an important role against AS Monaco. Rodri has been playing regularly of late, and as long as he is fully fit, he could start against AS Monaco. On the other hand, Rayan Cherki has missed Manchester City’s past six matches. The French international is unlikely to be ready to start for Pep Guardiola’s side until he has worked his way back to full fitness. That could come for Cherki after the upcoming international break.
It is good news for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City to have Rodri and Rayan Cherki back in training. Each player figures to have a key role in the City squad when they are fully fit. Given that City are in the midst of a five-match unbeaten run, it seems that the Manchester City squad is seemingly getting stronger in terms of having more players healthy for Pep Guardiola to utilise.
