The coaching carousel is in full swing in Serie A, but a few important pieces of the puzzle have yet to fit, since Napoli and Milan haven’t decided yet. Instead, Atalanta will soon announce Maurizio Sarri, Lazio will hire Gennaro Gattuso, and Fiorentina will most likely appoint Fabio Grosso, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Partenopei are torn between Massimiliano Allegri and Vincenzo Italiano. The former is about to meet Bologna to negotiate his exit. Choosing the former Milan manager wouldn’t be particularly well received by the fan base, but Aurelio De Laurentiis holds him in high regard.
While Napoli have narrowed down their search, Milan appear to have struck out for Andoni Iraola. He had sort of given his word to Crystal Palace, and his family would like to stay in England. He’s not fully convinced of the Rossoneri project for now. They are also seeking new directors and met with Austria’s boss, Ralf Rangnick. He’s asked for an all-encompassing role and to pick the gaffer. Oliver Glasner and Mauricio Pochettino could become real options down the line.
The Biancocelesti secured the ex-Italy coach before releasing Sarri. Fiorentina are the frontrunners for Grosso, but Bologna could interfere if they lose Italiano. Sassuolo would choose between Ignazio Abate and Alberto Aquilani if they had to.
The Partenopei’s reported downsizing strategy better suits a hungry up-and-comer, and his playing style is much more appealing even though he’s not coming off his best season. It’d be a nice change of pace for the Rossoneri if they onboarded a touted director and let him cook for a couple of years now that they have no other chefs in the kitchen.
