Una introducción al FC Seoul para los aficionados del Barcelona | OneFootball

Seúl, una de las capitales del mundo moderno y, particularmente, la capital de Corea del Sur. Una ciudad moderna y muy poblada que ha sabido convertirse en uno de los mayores centros de entretenimiento a nivel global. [Por Borja Fernández, colaborador de K League United]

Una ciudad que va a albergar uno de los mejores partidos que puede haber para los aficionados del fútbol asiático, pues el 31 de agosto el FC Seoul recibirá en su casa al vigente campeón de la liga española y de la Copa del Rey, el Fútbol Club Barcelona. En este artículo os presentaré tanto al rival como a la ciudad que visitará el equipo catalán.

Seúl, entretenimiento moderno y mucha historia por conocer

Cuna del K-pop y de miles de series y películas, plataformas como Spotify o Netflix deberían estar muy agradecidas con la ciudad de Seúl. ¿Os acordáis del “Gangnam Style”? Pues cada vez que lo cantábamos estábamos nombrando un distrito de Seúl, el distrito de Gangnam, una de las zonas adineradas de la ciudad. Incluso hay una estatua conmemorativa de la canción. ¿El Juego del Calamar? También ambientado en las calles de Seúl.

Sin embargo, nombrar solo eso sería quizás caer en tópicos, ya que Seúl es una ciudad enorme con muchísimo más que visitar. Aldeas tradicionales en los distritos del norte, museos que recogen el arte y la historia del país, increíbles puertas y murallas heredadas directamente de épocas antiguas… Y todo eso sin salir de Seúl.

Los que sí salieron de Seúl fueron los rivales del FC Barcelona. Fundado en 1983 como Lucky-Goldstar Football Club y propiedad del grupo LG, el equipo jugó sus primeros años en ciudades como Daejeon, Cheongju y Cheonan, hasta que se estableció en Seúl en 1990 como LG Cheetahs. Sin embargo, como medida para aumentar la popularidad del fútbol en el país previo al Mundial de la FIFA del 2002, en 1996 tuvieron que mudarse a una ciudad cercana, Anyang, donde fueron conocidos como Anyang LG Cheetahs. Así fue hasta 2004, cuando volvieron a Seúl ya con su nombre actual y bajo el mando del grupo GS, que tiene su origen en LG. Fue en 2004 cuando empezaron a jugar en el Seoul World Cup Stadium con capacidad para más de 66000 espectadores.

Durante sus casi 42 años, el FC Seoul ha ganado seis veces la K League y dos la FA Cup, entre otros títulos. Además, fueron finalistas de la Champions Asiática en 2002 y 2013. Es indudable que el FC Seoul es uno de los equipos más importantes del país y algunos de los mejores jugadores que han pisado la K League han vestido su camiseta. Por ejemplo, Dejan Damjanović, leyenda del fútbol asiático, jugó 8 años en Seúl y se convirtió en el máximo goleador histórico del club con 184 goles. Otro delantero histórico que jugó en la capital fue Park Chu-young, que también pasó por clubes como el Arsenal o el Celta de Vigo.

Un equipo plagado de estrellas

Ambos atacantes no son solo los máximos goleadores del FC Seoul, también son responsables de haber dado tanto prestigio al dorsal 10 del equipo, un dorsal 10 que ha heredado el ex jugador del Manchester United Jesse Lingard. Y es que, pese al dominio reciente de Jeonbuk y Ulsan, el FC Seoul parece el destino predilecto para estrellas de su calibre. La vida en Seúl, unas instalaciones de primer nivel en la ciudad cercana de Guri, una entidad prestigiosa en el mercado coreano y asiático…

Lingard se ha convertido en el líder del equipo y una de las caras visibles del proyecto y,  por supuesto, está acompañado de otros jugadores de primer nivel. Por nombrar algunos, Yazan Al-Arab y Kim Ju-sung en el centro de la defensa, Jeong Seung-won con su intensidad y polivalencia o Moon Seon-min y su capacidad para cambiar partidos en un instante, entre otros muchos. Conviene que los defensas culés estén muy atentos al nuevo fichaje, Anderson Oliveira. El extremo brasileño se ha convertido en uno de los mejores jugadores de la liga coreana y ha sido reconocido como tal. Tras un año y medio en el Suwon FC, ha llegado a Seúl siendo no solo el mayor asistente del 2024, también de los más regateadores. Es uno de esos jugadores divertidos de ver, de esos que si les dejas un segundo son capaces de poner un centro preciso al corazón del área, pero que sí les intentas robar el balón te pueden dejar en el suelo con un cambio de ritmo o un caño.

Al momento de escribir este artículo, el FC Seoul está séptimo en la clasificación y se podría decir que está siendo un momento complicado para el entrenador Kim Gi-dong. La afición no está contenta con él por la salida de la leyenda Ki Sung-yueng. El centrocampista, que pasó por el Mallorca y el Swansea, era uno de los favoritos del público y este año el entrenador no le dio oportunidades, lo que llevó a su salida del club rumbo a Pohang. Esto ha desencadenado protestas por parte de los aficionados hasta el punto de que el FC Seoul ha tenido que disculparse públicamente por la salida de Ki Sung-yueng.

Todo esto es lo que se va a encontrar el FC Barcelona el día 31 de agosto. Recordad que el partido será a las 20:00 horas en Corea, lo que equivale a las 13:00 horas en España. Estoy seguro de que va a ser un gran partido y que servirá a los de Hansi Flick para prepararse durante la gira asiática y afrontar la nueva temporada de la mejor forma posible. FC Seoul to host FC Barcelona

Seoul, one of the world's modern capitals and, particularly, the capital of South Korea. A modern and densely populated city that has successfully transformed into one of the biggest global entertainment hubs. This city is about to host one of the best matches for Asian football fans, as on August 31st, FC Seoul will welcome the reigning Spanish League and Copa del Rey champion, FC Barcelona, to their home ground. In this article, I'll introduce both the opponent and the city the Catalan team will visit.

Seoul: Modern Entertainment and Rich History

The birthplace of K-Pop and thousands of TV series and movies, platforms like Spotify and Netflix should be very grateful to the city of Seoul. Remember "Gangnam Style"? Every time we sang it, we were naming a district of Seoul, the Gangnam district, one of the city's affluent areas. There's even a commemorative statue of the song. Squid Game? Also set on the streets of Seoul.

However, only mentioning these might be falling into clichés, as Seoul is a huge city with much more to see. Traditional villages in the northern districts, museums showcasing the country's art and history, incredible gates and walls directly inherited from ancient times... And all of that without even leaving Seoul.

FC Seoul: A Well-Traveled and Successful Club

The team that did leave Seoul was FC Barcelona's opponent. Despite the recent dominance of Jeonbuk and Ulsan, FC Seoul seems to be the preferred destination for stars of his caliber. Life in Seoul, top-notch facilities in the nearby city of Guri, and a prestigious entity in the Korean and Asian market all contribute to this.

Lingard has become the team's leader and one of the visible faces of the project, and, of course, he's accompanied by other top-tier players. To name a few, Yazan Al-Arab and Kim Ju-sung in central defense, Jeong Seung-won with his intensity and versatility, or Moon Seon-min and his ability to change games in an instant, among many others. Barça defenders should pay close attention to the new signing, Anderson Oliveira. The Brazilian winger has become one of the best players in the Korean league and has been recognized as such. After a year and a half at Suwon FC, he has arrived in Seoul not only as the top assister of 2024 but also one of the best dribblers. He's one of those fun players to watch, one of those who, if you give them a second, can deliver a precise cross into the heart of the box, but if you try to steal the ball, they can leave you on the ground with a change of pace or a nutmeg.

Club-Fan Crisis: A Difficult Current Situation

As of this writing, FC Seoul is seventh in the standings, and it could be said that it's a complicated time for coach Kim Gi-dong. The fans are unhappy with him over the departure of club legend Ki Sung-yueng. The midfielder, who played for Mallorca and Swansea, was a fan favorite, and this year the coach didn't give him opportunities, leading to his departure from the club to Pohang. This has triggered protests from fans to the point that FC Seoul has had to publicly apologize for Ki Sung-yueng's departure.
