Josh Brownhill's future at Burnley remains up in the air amid January transfer interest

Scott Parker has reiterated Josh Brownhill’s importance to Burnley following the team’s 2-0 win over Coventry City on Tuesday night.

Speculation has surrounded Brownhill’s future at Turf Moor, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2025.

The 28-year-old has yet to renew terms with the Clarets, and could walk away from the club for nothing in June if that remains the case.

It was also reported earlier this month by TBR Football that Brownhill is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, as well as teams abroad.

The likes of West Ham, Fulham and Brighton have all been mentioned as potential next destinations, raising questions over his immediate future ahead of the January transfer window.

Parker has stressed the importance of Brownhill to his Burnley side, praising his impact on the team in their bid for promotion to the Premier League.

The 44-year-old has emphasised his qualities after the team’s weekend victory over Bristol City, with the player not featuring in the 2-0 win over the Sky Blues midweek.

“He's vitally important for us,” said Parker, via Burnley Express.

“I mean he's been vitally important since I've walked in here really.

“Unbelievable professional first and foremost, diligent, understands the game; he's a very clever player – probably doesn't need a lot of time being around me because he understands it.

“He's been a driving force for us.”

Brownhill made his 16th appearance of the campaign in the side’s 1-0 win away to his former side last weekend.

However, he was unavailable for selection midweek due to injury, with Josh Laurent instead taking his place.

He is the club’s top scorer in the league so far this season with five goals to his name, so Parker will be keen to see him back in the team sooner rather than later.

Burnley’s recent form

Burnley have maintained their position as a contender for automatic promotion to the Premier League with these recent victories since the November international break.

The Clarets are now unbeaten in their last four and have won three on the trot, meaning they are second in the table, at least before Leeds United’s clash with Luton Town this evening.

Parker’s side are just two points behind leaders Sheffield United, with both clubs on 17 games played.

Up next for Burnley is a trip to face Stoke City on 30 November in a 3pm kick-off.

If Burnley can resolve the situation surrounding Brownhill with a new extension then that would be a great seal of approval for what Parker is building at Turf Moor.

The midfielder is club captain, and is one of their most important players both on and off the pitch.

A January departure would be a real blow to the side, and could have a significant impact on their promotion hopes.
