Flamengo are monitoring left-back options for the next transfer window, with Alex Sandro's fitness and Ayrton Lucas's form under review. The club are also braced for the possibility of losing Alex Sandro at the end of this season.

According to Globo.com, the 35-year-old has a contract until the end of 2026 and has not decided his future, and he has told people close to him that he would prefer a league with lighter physical demands than Brazilian football. The congested calendar has already taken a toll, and the club have been managing his minutes.

He is currently recovering from a right hamstring injury sustained against Corinthians on 22 March. He has missed the last three matches and was withdrawn from Brazil's squad for the most recent FIFA window.

Ayrton Lucas, the only deputy in the role, has started those three games. He impressed against Cusco, coping with altitude and crossing for Bruno Henrique to open the scoring in the Libertadores opener, but came off poor displays against Red Bull Bragantino and Santos.

Flamengo ended 2025 with three left-backs, then chose to move on Matías Viña, loaned to River Plate of Argentina. The club backed Ayrton Lucas for his physical power at 28, although supporters have questioned his technical level.

Recently they signed youth left-back Gustavo Rodrigues, known as Ramires, from Mirassol. He turned 20 in March, is in his final under-20 season, and has 11 matches so far, 10 as a starter.

If no suitable option emerges mid-year, Flamengo will address the position at the end of the season.
