Flamengo host Independiente Medellín on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time, their first home game of this Libertadores. Carrascal, a Colombian, faced them in only his second senior match.
According to Globo.com, this will be his final outing before a three-match suspension in CBF competitions. Sent off against Fluminense in the league and hit with a two-game Supercopa ban for a red versus Corinthians, he will miss Bahia, Vitória and Atlético-MG, and the club fined him in both cases.
Disciplinary issues marked his start. After a November 2014 debut, absences and lateness kept him out until 2015, when he featured against Independiente Medellín. He played in March 2016 for Fortaleza C. E. I. F., moved in May to Sevilla B, then had spells at Karpaty, River Plate, CSKA and Dynamo Moscow before Flamengo.
In that meeting he came on after 28 minutes of the second half for Jhonatan Agudelo, the opponents already led 1-0, and Daniel Torres sealed it with a stoppage-time penalty. Under Leonardo Jardim he has drifted in and out of the side and is aiming to reclaim a starting place.
Carrascal was born in Cartagena, close to Barranquilla and a one hour 10 minutes flight from Medellín. Inspired by family showings of Ronaldinho videos, he fought through a tough upbringing to reach the professional game. “Sempre fui um jogador talentoso, desde criança... Quando querem te bater no bairro, você tem que revidar”, he told Olé in 2019.
