Diogo Leite was linked with a move away from 1. FC Union Berlin all summer, but now that the transfer window has closed in most countries, he hasn't left yet.
It wasn’t due to a lack of interest in the centre-back, though, with Kicker reporting that the German capital club rejected three offers for him.
Bologna, Fiorentina, and a French club each made bids of around €9 million, but that wasn’t enough for Union.
Leite could still leave, as the transfer window remains open in some leagues, such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Portugal.
However, the 26-year-old now reportedly prefers to stay with Union, as those leagues aren’t particularly appealing to him.
“It’s difficult to look into a crystal ball right now. But we don’t necessarily have to let Diogo go,” said sporting director Horst Heldt.
Leite has been training individually for some time, having appeared to be on the way out of the club, but he is expected to return to team training if he is not sold.
“He hasn’t trained consistently with the squad for quite some time. We would need to reintroduce him gradually. We’ll ease him back to the level step by step if he doesn’t leave,” Heldt added.
