In a recent report, Sunderland Echo offered an update on the future of Sunderland striker Ahmed Abdullahi. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats are in talks with Turkish Super Lig team Eyüpspor as they look to cash in on the Nigerian forward this summer.

Abdullahi’s Unimpressive Season In English Football

Abdullahi failed to make a positive impact for the Wearside club in the previous campaign when he missed a lot of games due to injuries. The Nigerian talent has still not made a senior appearance for Sunderland, but has done well to score six goals in seven matches for the club’s Under-21 team so far on all fronts.

The Nigerian talent is currently among the best young forwards in his homeland. However, he is currently surplus to requirements at the Premier League club and could benefit from a change of scenery if he wants to reignite his career.

His current contract with Sunderland will expire in the summer of 2028, so Regis LeBris is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him this off-season.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Cut Abdullahi Loose This Summer?

Abdullahi can find a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net and is quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

However, at the moment, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Furthermore, he has been prone to injuries of late, which has put his long-term future at the Wearside club in doubt.

Abdullahi needs to earn a regular run of games in top-flight football if he wants to get his career back on track. Thus, it is only fair to the player if Le Bris allows him to leave this off-season.

At 22, Abdullahi has still got a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve with each year. Still, the Black Cats would be wise to cut him loose before the end of this transfer window and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his squad.
