Uriarte concerned by lack of impact from signings | OneFootball

Jon Uriarte has voiced concern over the output from recent Athletic signings, including Jesús Areso, a 12 million euros recruit.

According to El Correo, the president said those deals were the right calls and involved good players who could contribute, but their level has fallen short and that worries him.

He added that he does not like investments that do not yield returns, particularly when the outlay is significant, and he urged the club to get more out of players brought in.

Mikel González, for his part, defended the decision not to bring in Peio Canales during the winter window, keeping him on loan at Racing despite issues in midfield.

He said the shortcomings were general rather than tied to one position. If they had believed his return would have a very big impact, they would have made the move, but they felt the decision was correct because Bilbao Athletic players could contribute.

González added they were wary of breaking that loan and his development when compared with the impact he might have had by coming back to Athletic.
