USA concludes Group Stage with first place finish in FIFA U-20 World Cup | OneFootball

MIAMI – The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 continued on Sunday, as the United States of America fell 2-1 to South Africa in Group E at Estadio El Teniente in Rancagua, Chile.

The USA finished the Group Stage with a 2-0-1 record. The United States retained its first place standing and will meet Italy in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

Noah Cobb opened the scoring in the 12’, striking a header off a free kick service from Matthew Corcoran, to place the U.S. in the lead.

South Africa found the equalizer in the 17’ through a Joshua Wynder own goal. The U.S. defender attempted to impede Siviwe Magidigidi from connecting with a cross into the box.

Gomolemo Kekana extended the South Africa lead in the 45’+2’ with a left-footed strike inside the penalty area on an assist from Shakeel April.

Marcos Zambrano nearly equalized in the 87’ with a header in the box but was denied by Fletcher Smythe-Lowe.
