Valencia and CD Alcoyano have agreed to launch the Memorial Fernando Martín, a joint tribute to the former defender and coach and to his relatives who died in a maritime accident in Indonesia. According to Superdeporte, the initiative is designed to honour a figure closely tied to both clubs.

The memorial will celebrate his human and sporting legacy, with football at its core. The first edition is planned for 2026, with the event aiming to establish itself on the calendar.

As a coach, Fernando Martín joined Valencia’s academy more than a decade ago, working across men’s youth teams. Last season he stepped up to the VCF Femenino first-team staff, and this campaign he has led VCF Femenino B, noted for his professionalism and dedication.

Before coaching, he built a solid playing career as a reliable centre-back, also passing through the Valencia academy. His clubs included CD Dénia, Pego CF, CD Eldense, Benidorm CD, Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, FC Cartagena, CF La Nucía and Paterna CF, among others.

His most emblematic spell came at CD Alcoyano, where he spent four seasons and helped secure a historic promotion to Segunda División. He became a much loved figure among Alcoyano supporters.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting between VCF Mestalla and CD Alcoyano at 16:00 at the Estadi Antonio Puchades, Jornada 21 of the Segunda Federación, Grupo 3, both clubs will hold a joint act of remembrance before kick-off.
