As reported by AS, Dimitrievski was Valencia’s standout, producing crucial saves to keep Rayo in check, while Diego López levelled the match.

He dominated the first half with several interventions to prevent further damage. After the break he remained assured, with Rayo threatening his goal less often.

Saravia lasted 30 minutes before going off with discomfort and had earlier conceded a penalty on Pacha Espino. Unai Núñez replaced him at right back and Rayo created little down that side thereafter.

Tárrega and Cömert were uncertain and imprecise at the back. Gayà later departed with discomfort, steady in defence but quiet going forward. Jesús Vázquez came on and showed more in attack.

Guido never looked fully comfortable yet was the best of Valencia’s midfielders, with the team’s few moves flowing through him. Pepelu worked more in defence than in attack.

Javi Guerra impressed, supplying the assist for Diego López and arriving with threat from deep. The Mestalla crowd questioned his withdrawal. Diego López ran hard, switched flanks with Rioja and, after scoring, faded.

Hugo Duro was largely anonymous across about an hour on the pitch, becoming more involved after the interval. Sadiq battled the centre-backs but Mendy and Lejeune gave him no space. Ugrinic improved midfield and almost won it late, shooting wide, while Ramazani offered little threat.
