Valencia are back in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, targeting a deputy to Stole Dimitrievski. According to Superdeporte, the position remains a recurring issue after injuries and the inability to keep Giorgi Mamardashvili in recent years.
With renewals for Dimitrievski and Cristian Rivero, one slot is open, the one recently held by Julen Agirrezabala. The club want a signing who starts as number two and competes with the Macedonian.
Valencia believe the development of Vicent Abril and Raúl Jiménez, both Spain youth internationals, relies on minutes. Loans are preferred to avoid stalling their progress on the Mestalla bench.
Several goalkeepers have already been sounded out, including Aaron Escandell. The search is focused on adding that back-up option.
The intention is to complete the addition after Dimitrievski earned the shirt with a string of saves that may have preserved Valencia’s place in Primera División.
