Van Dijk eyes chance to end Arsenal unbeaten run | OneFootball

Virgil van Dijk is looking forward to Liverpool’s match against Arsenal, believing his team have the opportunity to end the Gunners’ unbeaten home run.

Speaking after Liverpool’s most recent game against Fulham, star centre-back Virgil van Dijk looked ahead to his team’s next fixture against Arsenal.

The Dutch international admitted he’s aware that Arsenal are still yet to lose a game at the Emirates Stadium in all competitions in 2025/26, but he believes Liverpool have the opportunity to end that run.

“They have a fant­astic squad,” Van Dijk said. “We all know at home they are unbeaten this sea­son in all com­pet­i­tions. So we should be ready for a big fight.

“There is no reason to not look for­ward to it. It’s another oppor­tun­ity.”

It’s not unreasonable for Van Dijk to suggest Liverpool could end Arsenal’s unbeaten run at home, considering Arne Slot’s side are one of just two teams to beat the Gunners in all competitions this season.

But the other team was Aston Villa, and Arsenal got revenge on Unai Emery’s side with a 4-1 victory just last week. Mikel Arteta will be telling his players they now have the chance to do the same against Liverpool.

Yet perhaps Liverpool will come to the Emirates with less to lose than Villa. Villa were playing to stay in touch with Arsenal at the top, whilst Liverpool’s best-case scenario is that they end the day 11 points behind the Premier League leaders. At worst, it will be 17.

If Liverpool can play with the pressure off, maybe that could give them an edge over an Arsenal side trying to win their first title in decades.

On paper, it’s certainly one of the tougher fixtures Arsenal will face in the coming weeks, and the same is true for Liverpool. With the chance to go eight points clear at the top or end an unbeaten run, this game could provide a major morale boost to the winner.
