Vasco drew with Fluminense in the Carioca semi-final return and were eliminated, with Brenner and Barros rated the worst performers.
Barros conceded a penalty inside 90 seconds after Lucas Piton was caught high and Canobbio broke. Léo Jardim was rarely tested, Ganso took Fluminense’s only shot on target from the spot. According to Globo.com, the keeper’s distribution was poor.
Vasco went ahead when Robert Renan finished after Saldivia’s effort from a Johan Rojas cross. Fluminense later equalised from a free-kick after Savarino drew a foul.
David built the move that saw Andrés Gómez win a penalty, but Brenner missed a chance to add a second. He was booed as he left the Maracanã. Barros then gave away a second penalty late on.
Thiago Mendes was the standout in midfield, bringing control and bite. Gómez troubled the defence despite errant finishing, and Puma Rodríguez was steady at the back.
Saldivia dominated in the air but was loose in build-up, while Renan almost scored an own goal with a back-pass. Spinelli, Nuno Moreira and Adson failed to lift the level.
Coach Bruno Lazaroni’s side were stronger before half-time, but his changes reduced Vasco’s physical edge and the team faded.
