Vasco’s Copa Sudamericana defeat to Olimpia brought a harsh set of ratings, with João Vitor and Marino Hinestroza judged the poorest performers.
According to Globo.com, João Vitor, used out of position at right-back, endured a torrid night, losing most aerial duels and receiving a red card for a reckless stamp on Alfonso’s groin.
Defensively, Vasco were undone in the air as Lucas Freitas was beaten by Mateo Gamarra for an Olimpia goal. A contentious free-kick, awarded against Avellar, preceded the second, with Walace Falcão’s deflection finding Sandoval to score.
The third arrived when Sebastián Ferreira won the header in the box ahead of Hugo Moura. Léo Jardim produced two good saves but could have done better for that goal.
Carlos Cuesta scored Vasco’s goal from a Nuno Moreira corner, though both faded after the break and the back line struggled aerially throughout. Moreira later missed a clear opening.
Hinestroza worked tirelessly but his decision-making faltered near goal, wasting presentable chances to shoot or set up team-mates. David offered little hold-up play, while Brenner’s impact was curtailed once Vasco were reduced to ten and forced deep.
Tchê Tchê supplied little progression, then shifted to right-back after Mutano’s injury and closed the space well. Ramon Rique was largely quiet aside from a fine early second-half pass to Hinestroza.
On the touchline, the team were led by Marcello Salles, yet the staff’s call to rest the entire side and field youngsters backfired. It felt a missed chance to all but secure top spot and ease the calendar, with Olimpia full strength yet showing clear technical limitations, and the prospect of extra fixtures later in the year.
