Renato Gaúcho will consult the Vasco hierarchy on whether to field a second-string side for the Copa Sudamericana opener away to Barracas Central on seven April in Buenos Aires.

"I have my view, I will pass it to the board. I think four or five heads think better than one. I want to know what the club thinks. We will sit down, talk, exchange ideas," he told ge and the Tá On programme.

He has already indicated a preference to use reserves in the first game, with the tournament not a priority at this stage of the season.

April brings a congested schedule, with nine fixtures across the Sudamericana, Copa do Brasil and the Brasileirão.

Vasco are in Group C with Olimpia of Paraguay, Audax Italiano of Chile and Argentina's Barracas Central.

The club return to the competition after a 2025 campaign that was prioritised then ended in damaging defeats. The board accepts planning mistakes and, internally, now views prioritising the Sudamericana over the Brasileiro as an error. The tournament will be handled differently in 2026.
