Villarreal and Juventus shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The hosts struck first in the 18th minute as Georges Mikautadze finished neatly from the centre of the box after Nicolas Pépé had done the hard work to set him up.
Juventus responded after the break, Federico Gatti powering a left-footed shot into the top centre of the net in the 49th minute following Lloyd Kelly’s precise delivery.
Just seven minutes later, the visitors went ahead through Francisco Conceição, curling a left-footed effort past the goalkeeper to seemingly take control of the tie. But Villarreal had the final word. In the 90th minute, Renato Veiga rose highest to head home Ilias Akhomach’s perfectly timed corner, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.
While Juventus enjoyed more possession (56% to Villarreal’s 44%), it was the hosts who were more clinical in front of goal, recording more shots on target.
The result keeps both sides very much in the mix in their Champions League group, highlighting the drama and unpredictability that makes Europe’s elite competition so compelling.
