Manchester United have today ‘reached a verbal agreement’ with Trabzonspor for Andre Onana.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Trabzonspor are ready to take United’s out-of-favour shot-stopper off their hands for the coming months via a season-long loan.

Andre Onana to Trabzonspor: The state of play

The Red Devils have already green-lit the deal, leaving the ball in Onana’s court as to whether he completes the move.

Ben Jacobs adds that the Cameroonian is giving ‘serious consideration’ to the switch, despite having full intentions of staying at Old Trafford throughout the summer.

In fact, Onana is said to have reported back for pre-season requesting a new contract from the club’s key decision-makers, as United failing to secure Champions League qualification meant the squad saw their salaries slashed by 25 per cent for the 2025/2026 term.

It seems Ruben Amorim has had different ideas over the goalkeeper’s future, and perhaps made it evident towards the back end of last season when Onana was omitted from the matchday squad for four of the last seven Premier League matches of 2024/2025.

Such omissions have continued into the new campaign, with Altay Bayindir starting all three league matches up to this stage, though even his showings have left much to be desired – hence United sanctioning the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day for a fee of £18.2 million.

Onana, 29, has overseen a particularly error-plagued two years between the sticks in M16, so it’s encouraging to see Amorim being proactive in securing a replacement.

The former Ajax man is, however, contracted to the Reds until 2028.
