Squad update:

  • Ezechiel Banzuzi has been able to return to team training after suffering a fracture of the metacarpus in his right hand. He is therefore an option to feature against Mainz.
  • Benny Henrichs and Amadou Haidara are the only players in the squad that will miss the match in Mainz.

Aims after the international break:

  1. "It's always a different feeling in training, when half the squad is missing. But, everyone returned to Leipzig fit and injury-free and the majority were able to enjoy positive results with their respective nations. Those are all good conditions for the game in Mainz. For the first time, we were now able to meet with our full team that will remain in this form over the winter. I'm very happy with the group of players that I've got. Obviously, there will be some tough decisions to make, but we will need each and every one of them.Everyone will have an opportunity to showcase themselves. We have a lot of talent in our team and several players who want and can take up responsibility. Now, it's about getting settled in and to work on developing our players."

Conrad Harder:

  1. "We were very thorough when we scouted him. We hope that we have signed a physical, hard-running and dynamic player. He is able to play in a dominant manner and is also a threat in the air, even though he's not 1.95m-tall. He's a very open-minded person. He's still very young, but we want to turn him into a top-level player. We tend to play mainly with one striker, but it's also possible that he could feature alongside Rômulo."

Benjamin Henrichs:

  1. "He's working hard on his comeback. He's dealt with everything in a very professional manner. We hope that he will be back soon, because his qualities and his presence will help push us forward. At the same time, we know that he still needs some time."

Xaver Schlager:

  1. "I'm extremely happy with him. It's clear to see how important he is for us on the pitch and what a presence he is out there. He was able to get some minutes with Austria recently, where he also takes up a key role in midfield. He brings stability to our team, which is important given the phase we currently find ourselves in. He's a key pillar that we want to build around."

Opponents Mainz:

  1. "We can expect it to be a hectic and aggressive match. We will also need to keep an eye on the players' workloads, in order to ensure that we're full of energy for the match. Nadiem Amiri is the playmaker in Mainz. He's a key part of their build-up play, can deliver long passes and has a good shot as well. He's a player who you definitely need to keep an eye on. First and foremost, however, we need to focus on ourselves and play to our strengths. We're prepared for every player that we'll come up against at the weekend, including Amiri."

Mehr Zeit für Training

  1. „Natürlich wären wir gerne international vertreten, aber die Situation ist wie sie ist. Jeder Sportler will den Wettkampf und er will spielen. Das macht immer mehr Spaß als Training. Wir müssen es für uns nutzen, in einer Phase des Umbruchs intensiv trainieren zu können. Es kann auch ein Vorteil sein, wenn man die Trainingszeit hat und sie nutzen kann.“
