Laporta secured a convincing victory in the election, receiving a large majority of the votes from Barcelona members.

Speaking after the result became evident, Font admitted that the outcome was disappointing for his campaign but stressed that he fully accepts the decision made by the club’s members.

“We are sad. We had hoped to transform the club and bring it closer to its people. It’s a shame, but we accept the result as we must.

“We congratulate the president-elect, Joan Laporta, and his entire board of directors.

“We have championed a different Barça. And we will continue to champion this cause because it is a noble cause for the country.

“I will keep working, fighting, and striving to ensure that Barça, the club of my life, becomes the club I dream of,” he said.

What makes Barcelona special

Font did not confirm whether he would run again in the next presidential election, but he emphasised that he intends to continue advocating for his vision of how Barcelona should evolve in the future.

However, he made it clear that he does not see himself leading a traditional opposition movement against Laporta’s administration during the next five years.

“The fact that there are people fighting for a different Barça makes us a unique club.

“It will be important for members to offer a constructive counterpoint to the official narrative without causing instability, but the president who has emerged victorious must have our support.

“We are making everything we have worked on in recent years available to the club,” he added.

During his remarks, Font declined to comment on political tensions that surfaced during the election campaign, including the public support shown by Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal for Laporta during the day of reflection.

“It’s better not to talk about this now. We’ll address it later,” he concluded.
