Robert Sanchez usually waits until the second half to throw the game away for Chelsea. He’s done it in the first 5 minutes today at Old Trafford.

Chelsea were caught out by a simple long ball over the top and a flick on, and Sanchez paid the price.

He charged out to meet Bryan Mbeumo and brought him down on the edge of the area. There were defenders covering, but it was close enough to goal to be a definite red. The Spaniard’s terrible decision making has cost him again. It would have been better to concede and play with eleven.

To be fair to Sanchez, he’s had some good games recently, and made some good saves in midweek against Bayern Munich.

But as we say time after time – there is no point a goalkeeper being good at shot stopping if they make horrific errors on a regular basis which give goals away. You’d rather have a super reliable goalie who doesn’t make miraculous stops now and again.

Chelsea are now in a world of trouble. Filip Jorgensen has come on for Estevao and Tosin has come on for Pedro Neto as the Blues look to build a structure that can stand up to 11 men for the rest of the game. We’re not hopeful.

We said that this season could be defined as good or bad by these two games this week – it looks like two defeats and a pretty solid stamp of “bad.”

UPDATE: Manchester United are now a goal ahead and Chelsea have taken off Cole Palmer injured. A game we’ve looked forward to all week is now a disaster.
