Villarreal are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig to sign Péter Gulácsi, 36, to complete their goalkeeping options for 2026/27.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, personal terms with the Hungarian are virtually agreed, with a club-to-club agreement the final step.

Talks between the clubs are not expected to be complicated, with Gulácsi entering the final year of a deal to 30 June 2027 after 11 seasons at Leipzig.

Leipzig could ease his exit for a reduced fee, or even via contract termination. The agreement could be sealed Friday or over the weekend if finances are settled.

His arrival would add a proven goalkeeper used to the highest level for a demanding season.

It would not change Villarreal’s plan for Luiz Júnior, earmarked as first-choice under Iñigo Pérez for a second successive Champions League campaign.

A veteran is sought to offer competition, security and experience. Gulácsi fits and could start or provide cover for the Brazilian.

The reshape began with Diego Conde joining Real Betis on loan for 2026/27, with a non-obligatory option set at six million euros.

Villarreal also aim to place Arnau Tenas on loan, potentially with an option to buy, with Elche, Levante, Real Mallorca and Almería interested.
