Villarreal will unveil the retro shirt for their trip to San Mamés to face Athletic Club on Thursday at MBFWMadrid, part of LaLiga’s initiative. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the reveal answers a question many fans are asking.
Collector Josep Cabrera is watching closely. He says his historic shirts are not for sale, not even for €3,000, believing they could grow in value and he wants to pass them to his children.
Asked which design he would choose for the weekend of 11 and 12 April, he picks the Jugui 93/94. He praises its blue and huge crest, and thinks it could suit the occasion.
Among his prized pieces is the shirt from the second promotion to Segunda in 1991/92, sealed in La Línea de la Concepción. Back then players typically had two shirts, short and long sleeve, so kits were reused and long sleeves are no longer sold.
Another jewel is the rare Adidas 1982/83, its crest and maker almost erased by wear. From the modern era he loves the blue second kit from 2000, linked to Cagna, and he would like blue shorts on the retro day. He also keeps a shirt linked to Gerard Moreno from the Gdansk final against Manchester United.
Cabrera says the Champions League was a blow, but results in LaLiga are strong. He would renew Marcelino, maintains good relations with the club, and shares his collection on Instagram via Museugroc, opened a month ago.
