Vinicius Junior condemned alleged racist abuse during Benfica v Real Madrid, posting on Instagram after the Champions League play-off first leg finished 1-0 to Real Madrid.

After putting Madrid ahead in the 50th minute, he clashed with Gianluca Prestianni, who allegedly called him "monkey", Marca reported. He went straight to referee François Letexier, pointing at the Argentinian, and play was halted.

The match resumed eight minutes later. Prestianni was neither booked nor sent off and was substituted in the 81st minute.

In an Instagram story, Vinicius described racists as cowards who hide their faces, said they are protected by people who should punish them, and added the incident was nothing new for him or his family.

He did not name the Argentinian, though the post strongly alluded to their exchange.
