DPA reports that Rudi Völler expects Joshua Kimmich to remain Germany captain under incoming head coach Jürgen Klopp. The stance comes despite Germany’s Round of 32 exit at the World Cup.
Völler said he assumed Kimmich would continue. He described Kimmich as a proven leader in many internationals and said he could not envisage a major change in that role.
He stressed the final decision rests with Klopp, while noting that Klopp’s recent remarks have not suggested an alternative plan.
Kimmich was appointed Germany captain after Euro 2024, succeeding Ilkay Gündogan.
Völler made the comments at the International Coaches’ Congress in Mainz.
