The Magpies have not fared too well at Stamford Bridge in recent seasons but Eddie Howe's side - much-changed from the draw with Barcelona in midweek - impressed in the capital on Saturday evening.

Anthony Gordon's first-half strike was enough to seal all three points, with the goalscorer once again playing through the middle in attack.

In midfield, it was another smart showing by Jacob Ramsey, who is benefitting from regular minutes in black and white of late.

Chelsea huffed and puffed but Newcastle's defence was resilient, with Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman both colossal at the back, while Lewis Hall also put in a solid display against his former club.
