Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, 40, produced a superb display to secure a 0-0 draw with Spain on his nation’s World Cup debut.
Meu Timao reports that in July 2024 Hugo Souza left Chaves when his loan ended, returned to Flamengo and was then confirmed by Corinthians, with Chaves signing Vozinha from AS Trenčín as their new first choice.
Since then, both have stayed put. Hugo Souza has become Corinthians’ starter, reaching 123 appearances and lifting Paulista 2025, the Copa do Brasil 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil 2026. Vozinha, under contract with Chaves until 30 June, has played 51 games with 18 clean sheets.
Against Spain he made seven saves, six from efforts inside the area, and three were rated difficult. He was named man of the match.
Vozinha, born Josimar José Évora Dias, has represented Progresso in Angola, Zimbru Chișinău in Moldova, AEL Limassol in Cyprus and Gil Vicente in Portugal before joining Chaves. A campaign by CazéTV saw his social media following jump from 50,000 to 1.5 million.
His nickname dates back to childhood in São Vicente, Cabo Verde’s second largest island, where team-mates teased him for leaving games upset against older boys. Later in Angola, sharing a dressing room with another Josimar, he revived the childhood nickname to avoid being labelled the second Josimar.
Cabo Verde and Spain opened Group H with one point each. Saudi Arabia and Uruguay complete the group later on Monday at 19:00 Brasília time.
