FLW details the four players who are set to miss the midweek clash at the CBS Arena.

Another round of Championship fixtures get underway in midweek, with a clash at the CBS Arena so important in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

On Wednesday evening, Coventry City welcome Preston North End to the CBS Arena, two teams at complete opposite ends of the form table.

After a three-game winless run heading into the opening week of February, the Sky Blues’ victory over promotion rivals Middlesbrough has put them firmly back on track, with Frank Lampard’s men winning their last five consecutive games in the second tier, including a 2-0 victory at Bristol City last weekend.

It has put the West Midlands outfit five points clear of Boro at the summit and nine clear from third-place Millwall in the hunt for automatic promotion, with just 10 games remaining of the campaign.

Meanwhile, for Preston, their form has completely deserted them, with a 3-1 home defeat to Oxford United last Friday evening typifying their struggles of late.

A disappointing loss at Deepdale means they are winless from their last five league games, including three defeats, which has led to them slipping down to 13th in the table and eight points off the top six.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side need to address this slide immediately if they are to get back into promotion contention, but it's a daunting task to do it against one of the most inform sides in the division, who look Premier League bound.

Nevertheless, the Championship can throw up unexpected surprises in its trademark fashion, so while Coventry will start the game as firm favourites, it will be intriguing to see how it all plays out at the CBS Arena.

As kick off approaches, FLW details the players who are set to miss the clash on Wednesday evening.

Coventry City: Jack Rudoni

The first absentee for Coventry is influential midfielder Jack Rudoni, who sat out their victory over Bristol City last weekend with a calf problem.

Lampard confirmed Rudoni would be out of their home matches against Preston and Southampton, while there is a slim chance of him returning before the international break.

It’s such an untimely blow for the Sky Blues, particularly after the £5m star had netted in his three previous games before his absence at Ashton Gate.

Therefore, Rudoni will play no part against the Lilywhites in midweek.

Coventry City: Bobby Thomas

It’s a similar timeframe for defender Bobby Thomas, who too suffered a calf injury against Stoke City and was forced to miss out against Bristol City.

Lampard reiterated that Thomas’ recovery will be similar to Rudoni’s, with the 25-year-old set to miss matches against Preston and Southampton, while having a small chance of returning before the upcoming international break.

And that is another blow for Coventry to take, with Thomas a regular throughout this season and a stalwart at the back that has helped the Sky Blues be positioned at the top of the table.

Coventry City: Oliver Dovin

Coventry’s last injury absentee comes in the form of goalkeeper Oliver Dovin. Dovin has been absent for just short of a year with an ACL injury, with Lampard stating in the middle of January that he doesn't want to put a specific return date on the 23-year-old.

Carl Rushworth has deputised well in his absence and been one of the best goalkeepers in the division, so his injury hasn't impacted the side too much, but those at the CBS Arena will be hoping that the Swedish shot-stopper will be back soon to add crucial depth within the ranks.

Preston North End: Daniel Iversen

For Preston, they have just one player on the treatment table in goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

Their usual number one has been absent since mid-January due to a groin issue.

Prior to their game against Oxford, Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom revealed Iversen was to be assessed, although he eventually wasn’t involved in the matchday squad.

While he has been able to dive, catch and throw for a while now, kicking a ball has remained a problem due to the issue.

There could well be a chance that Iversen is back involved, but Preston may not want to risk rushing him back as the injury continues to have its effects.

Therefore, he could well miss out against the Sky Blues.
