The centre-back was sent off in first-half stoppage time at The Valley in a chaotic Championship clash that also saw Djibril Soumaré dismissed - and both players will now serve three‑match bans.

With United tweeting via their official X account that the appeal for their skipper's red card was unsuccessful, the majority of fans have been questioning why it was even appealed in the first place.

While Chris Wilder was adamant Tanganga should only have seen yellow, the reaction from across X suggests that the original decision was correct.

To give some insight into why the decision was maybe appealed, you only have to look at what Wilder said post-match to BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It's just ridiculous - yellow at very best. [He's] committed to a header, gone for it, not gone to elbow the guy, just committed, eyes on the ball, mistimed it - it's a yellow," Blades' head coach claimed.

Wilder then added, "The referee couldn't wait to get his red card out. It was unbelievable how quickly he did it. No discussion with the fourth [official], no discussion with the linesman who was right alongside it."

Yes, referee Oliver Langford wasted little time in brandishing a second straight red card which left United having to play the entire second half with nine men - but the vast majority of fans think it was the correct call.

South London Sport journalist Richard Cawley responded to the news with a blunt “Zero shock there," which sums up the mood among many Addicks fans who felt the on‑field call was straightforward - and a few even called for a longer ban.

Another fan described it as "quite clearly a red card" and branding the appeal "a waste of everyone’s time", while Charlton reporter Louis Mendez said he was not surprised by the outcome and labelled Tanganga’s challenge "reckless."

For many Blades fans, it’s not ‘surprising’ to them to see the appeal rejected, but a couple still share Wilder's view.
