Santiago Gimenez became the latest Milan player to miss from the penalty spot during Sunday evening’s 2-1 loss away against Antonio Conte’s title-chasing Napoli, worsening his side’s overall conversion rate from 12 yards in the process.
Milan left it too little too late to get going at the Maradona, and despite Luka Jovic’s late consolation goal and the opportunity from the spot, the Rossoneri were beaten by first-half strikes from Matteo Politano and Romelu Lukaku.

Gimenez, who was signed from Feyenoord for a fee in the region of €35m in January, has not scored in any of his last five matches for Milan, and tried to turn the tables with an opportunity from the penalty spot.
There was initial confusion, though, as Christian Pulisic has been Milan’s regular penalty taker this season. The American was handed the ball by Rafael Leao, but then decided to hand it over to his teammate instead.
In the end, it was a poor penalty from the Mexico international: Not enough power and not placed far enough into the corner – Alex Meret was always going to save it as long as he dived the right way.
As a result, Milan have now missed 44.44% of the penalties they have earned this season. Four out of nine missed, five scored.
Pullisic has scored four out of five, Tammy Abraham has scored one from two attempts, and Theo Hernandez and Gimenez have missed one penalty each (one penalty taken each as well).
