The £6.7 million deal that brought our Superstar from Portugal back to Paradise for a second spell has been a snip – and could prove to be a masterstroke – as the Hoops once again possess genuine stardust in the side. The former Benfica man undoubtedly brings that flair aspect back to the Scottish Champions and his cameos since he came back have been sublime in certain respects, when considering his conditioning.

Getting back on the scoresheet regularly will also be boosting his confidence, but from recent performances, it doesn’t look like he’s lacking any. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match yesterday evening though, he said it had been a while since he had this sort of competition to bring the best out of him and that his return to former glory is a process which will take time..

“I’m happy overall with the win,” he said to Luke Shanley. “It was not the best performance in the first half, but we corrected some stuff and we could be ourselves again. It is a process. It has been a lot of games. It has been a while since I had this competition every game. I’m just getting fit as soon as possible. Feeling better game after game. I can’t wait for the future.

“I think, as a Celtic player and as an institution, you always aim to do better and better. We are no different from that. Even though we have this advantage, it does not mean we are going to take our foot off the pedal. So we are just going to keep on, and getting better and achieve our stuff.”
