Tom Cleverley's Watford have taken an interest in Trabzonspor forward, Denis Dragus, but no official approach has been made.
Watford are interested in Romanian forward Denis Dragus.
That is according to a report in Turkey from Fanatik, who claim that Watford have emerged as a surprise suitor for the striker, who only signed for Trabzonspor in the summer.
Despite Watford's reported interest, there has been no official approach as of yet, but it may only be a matter of time until the Hornets swoop in.
Dragus has failed to live up to expectations at the Turkish club so far this season, and it is believed that they will be open to selling the striker in the January window if an approach does come in.
Watford currently find themselves in the Championship play-off race and are looking to strengthen their forward line for the second half of the season.
Dragus spent five years on the books at Standard Liege in Belgium, but was not always able to nail down a place in the starting eleven, so he went on loan to Italy and Turkey when he was out of favour in Belgium.
It was his performances last season while on loan for Gaziantep FK in the Turkish top flight that really put him on the map, as he showed that he is capable of hitting double figures in goals in a season.
The Romanian scored 14 goals in 32 league appearances last campaign, which ultimately earned him a move to Trabzonspor in the summer, with the Turkish club paying a reported fee of €1.7 million.
Unfortunately, Dragus has failed to get going at Trabzonspor this season, having scored just one goal in 13 appearances. The 25-year-old is currently out injured, but you would suspect it is not long-term given Watford's keen interest.
Dragus is versatile in that he can play on the wing or as a striker, and perhaps a new location like Vicarage Road could unlock his clear goalscoring potential.
The play-off race in the Championship is really heating up, but Watford find themselves directly in the middle of it. The Hornets currently sit eighth in the table, but are level on points with Middlesbrough and West Brom in 7th and 6th respectively.
Tom Cleverley has done a fantastic job this season, given his lack of managerial experience beforehand, and has ensured that his side are competing at the top end of the table.
The squad probably needs some reinforcement, but the recruitment has to be smart in order to prevent disruptions among the squad. Dragus could be a smart signing, but it does come with a risk considering his goal record this season.
As mentioned, Watford are yet to make an official approach for the forward, so only time will tell if the Hornets go through with a deal or not.
