Mohamed Salah has scored just four goals for Liverpool in 12 Premier League appearances this season.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has now made a bold claim about Salah in his latest podcast episode.

He believes manager Arne Slot should drop him to send a message to the rest of the team.

“Salah is not helping them defensively,” Rooney said.

“If you’re one of the players who they’ve signed and you’re on the bench and you’ve seen him not running, then what message does that send to you?”

Liverpool slumped to another disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the club now in the midst of a full-blown crisis.

There were numerous underwhelming displays from the Reds. They included Alexander Isak, who had 14 touches during his 68 minutes on the pitch.

Salah failed to contribute a goal or an assist. He had 90 touches and made three key passes. He lost possession 37 times and won just four of his 16 ground duels.

He has been a top performer for Liverpool over the years, bagging 250 goals and 116 assists in 418 appearances across all competitions.

He became the first player in Premier League history to finish a season with the most goals and assists last term, when he won the player of the season award.

But he hasn’t been his usual self this term, and Slot needs to shake things up.
