Kerstin Casparij and Aggie Beever-Jones spoke to the media in the mixed zone after their season opener at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City’s vice-captain, Kerstin Casparij, remained optimistic despite her side’s defeat against Chelsea.
“Definitely not how we wanted to start the season. Coming to Stamford Bridge now, it’s a place where we actually want to get a result. We have not been able to do that last year. But it’s only the start of the season, and I think there are a lot of things we can build on. A new manager, new players, so a lot of positives to take into next week.”
“Our second half was very positive. The way we press, if we get it right, can be really good. We get a lot of freedom in the final third, so it’s just about the last pass, the last cross, that we need to work on.”
Aggie Beever-Jones, who scored the first goal in the league this season, followed.
On debutant Ellie Carpenter, she said, “I feel like I’ve played with her for longer than just pre-season. She offers something new. She is so quick. She put it on a plate for me. I thought she was incredible today. She’s settled in brilliantly. She’s come on and had a debut to remember by a clear mile. She is such a great asset to our team. I can’t wait for her to show everyone what she can do.”
Last year Chelsea won the treble, this season they won’t settle for anything less than all four available trophies. “It’s Chelsea. We want to win. Last year, we won the treble, missed out on one trophy. The ambition is to win all four. It’s something that I believe we can do, it’s going to be tough, and people are going to want to beat us. We are ready for that and hopefully we can go all the way this year and finish off where we left off.”
