"We are waiting for Upa's answer" – Bayern and Upamecano still not aligned on new contract | OneFootball

At the beginning of the year, it was reported that a breakthrough had been reached in Bayern Munich’s talks to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract beyond the summer.

However, as Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl revealed on Friday, a final agreement has still not been reached.

“There has been speculation that Upa has agreed to a new deal, but we never said that,” Eberl told a press conference.

“We said we are waiting for Upa’s answer – that’s the only one that counts. And that’s what we’re waiting for. There are no new developments.”

According to Abendzeitung, there are two main sticking points: whether the contract should run until 2030 or 2031, and from when a €60 million release clause would become active. 

While Upamecano and his representatives would like the clause to take effect as early as 2027, the German record champions want to retain control until at least 2028.

Despite these discrepancies, the local newspaper believes it would be a “major surprise” if negotiations were to break down.
